Nadrian C. Seeman: DNA, not Merely the Secret of Life

Professor Nadrian C. Seeman will visit IBT at BIOCEV on Monday, May 28. Do not miss his talk that he will deliver at 10 AM at the BIOCEV conference hall: DNA, not Merely the Secret of Life.

Prof. Seeman, Margaret And Herman Sokol Professor Of Chemistry at New Your University is a true pioneer of nanotechnology, his paper from year 1982 “Nucleic acid junctions and lattices” published in Journal of Theoretical Biology is outlining the concept of DNA nanotechnology. Prof. Seeman was inspired to explore self-assembling ability of DNA by Eschers’ woodcut. His open mind led to the first 3D nanoscale object, cube made of DNA (1991) and later on to the concepts now used in the technology of DNA origami. You can learn more about our distinguished guest in Wikipedia, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nadrian_Seeman

Prague Protein Spring 2018

PPS 2018 aims to cover a thematic issue: “Proteins at Work” addressing concepts and system approaches demonstrated on selected general topics: “Proteins in living cells“,  “Large Scale organization of Proteins“, “Proteins in Biomineralization” and “Integrating knowledge about Proteins at the systems’ level”.

The conference will reflect both the theoretical and the experimental points of view, and finally, tackle a question of utilization of the knowledge in applied science. The major goal of PPS 2018 meeting is to propose a discussion on the current progress in the field and anticipate the future direction in protein science.

We are looking forward to welcome prominent scientists as well as young colleagues with significant contribution to the selected topics. The essential characteristics of this meeting is its dedication and focused mission delivered by highly acclaimed scientists and motivated students and their inter-generation interactions.

FEBS Course: Advanced methods for macromolecular crystallization VIII

The practical course named “Advanced methods in macromolecular crystallization VIII“ will take place at the Academic and University Center at Nove Hrady (Czech Republic) from June 10th to June 16th, 2018. This crystallization course will be continuation of seven previously successfully organized FEBS combined practical and lecture and later practical FEBS courses. The planned course (for undergraduate, postgraduate students and postdocs with an interest in macromolecular crystallization) will be quite different from other established courses in protein crystallization, which are mostly of practical character and tend to neglect the basic theoretical aspects of crystal growth process. New trends and other methods will be discussed last day of the course and hereby the whole range of structural methods will be covered. The main aim and big advantage of the course is a healthy mixture of advanced discussions of the theory and of laboratory experiments. To achieve this goal, we have invited a number of prominent experts in the field as a teachers and tutors.

Proposed deadline for applications: March 31, 2018
For more information about the course, please have a look at the website https://macromolcryst2018.febsevents.org/ or contact the organizers.
